Cake & Produce Sale at The Hills

Saturday 17th December 10.30 to 5.00pm

The local farmers and growers from all over North County Dublin will be presenting their locally grown produce to help you prepare your larder for the Christmas festivities. The ladies of the cricket club will also present their cookery skills with a wide selection of their home produce.

Come along on Saturday and take advantage of some great value for money as well as a wide selection of fare to satisfy everyone's appetite.

Christmas Carols at The Vineyard

Sunday 11th December, 7 pm

Sunday next Skerries Community Choir members will lead us in our annual celebration of Christmas Carols. We will also have the privelege of hearing from guest soloists Noreen Molloy, Tony Carton and our own Martin Byrne.

If that wasn't enough we will also have a complimentary glass of mulled wine to help loosen your own vocal chords and if you're in the need of sustenance we will also have some mince pies to keep those hunger pangs at bay.

Santa Arrives at The Vineyard

Sunday 11th December

Santa arrives at the Vineyard at 2.30 next Sunday and will be greeting all the girls and boys in his grotto from about 3 pm. Everyone welcome and don't forget we have a fun childrens disco afterwards.

Killalane Road Races Disco

To coincide with the annual running of the Killalane Road Races the club will be having a Disco in the Club House on Saturday the 10th of September.

Disco will start at 9.30, bar open from late afternoon to coincide with practice sessions. No Cover charge and all are welcome.

 

St Francis Hospice Coffee Morning

The annual coffee morning to raise funds for St Francis Hospice will take place on Saturday September the 3rd. The coffee will be brewing from 10.30 am and all support for this great cause would be greatly appreciated.

 

2011 Golf Classic

The annual Golf Classic is scheduled to take place at Balbriggan Golf Club on Friday the 5th of August. Tee times are between 2PM and 4.30PM. Teams of 4 cost €200 and this includes refreshments.

The Hills Summer Camp

The 2011 Summer Camp is scheduled for Monday 11th July through to Thursday 14th of July. The camp is for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 and the camp runs each day from 10 AM to 1 PM.

Costs for the camp are €30 for the first participant and €50 for more than one participant.

In addition this year we have a Fielding Clinic on Tuesday the 12th for 13 to 17 year olds running from 10AM to 12 Noon. This clinic is being run by Australian coach Noel Knight.

Tuesday 26th of July sees our old friend Albert van der Merwe back at the Vineyard to put on a spin bowling clinic for 13 to 17 year olds from 10AM to 12.30PM.

Skerries 100 Road Races

This year sees the staging of the 65th Skerries Road Races and the cricket club will be in full swing to entertain the visiting contestants, their followers and supporters. On the Friday night we will have the return of Gravel Poets performing in the club house from about 9.30.

On Saturday we will be providing a full bar service all day together with BBQ and Teas and Coffeee to help the enthusiasts last the day. We will again have a live feed from the start finish straight to our big screeen in the club house so you don't miss any of the action while enjoying your refresments.

Girls Cricket for Life Roadshow comes to The Hills

Leinster Cricket Union in conjunction with Fingal County Council's Sports Office with the support of the Irish Sports Council's Women in Sport Initiative is running a five-day 'Cricket for Life Roadshow' for girls. The Roadshow will be visiting clubs in Fingal throughout June catering for beginners and those with playing experience aged 7-13yrs. The Roadshow emphasises participation through fun games for what promises to be a great week of cricket activities.

Wednesday April 13th

The Leinster Cricket Union is organising two child protection courses in the coming weeks and the first one is happening here at The Hills next week. We would encourage all mentors, skippers and coaches who have not already been through this program to attend.

The fee for the course is €10.00 per attendee. Applications to stephen.moreton@irishcricket.org or telephone him on (01)8947914.

If for some reason you cannot attend the course in The Hills it will be repeated in Merrion Cricket Club on Wednesday the 27th of April.

 

Saturday April 9th Event Cancelled

As part of the celebration and commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Census we are putting on a commemorative cricket game in Skerries at 3 pm. The game will be in costume of the period and will be played on a new wicket being prepared in the town park between The Mills and the Community Centre. In keeping with the tradition of the era the game will be played as the Gentlemen Vs The Farmers.

Friday February 25th Election Special Quiz Night at The Hills

Whether your are a "floating voter" a "don' know" or an "abstaining voter", this Friday you have an opportunity of making your mark in a different way by supporting our Quiz Night organised by the Youths Section of the club.

Tables of 4 cost €10 a head and first questions will be asked at 9 pm. Having cast your vote in the other quiz, why not take a break from the "Spin" and "Sound Bites" and come along for an evening of craic and entertainment with your friends at the club.

The  ladies cricketers are having a meeting on Wednesday January the 19th at  8:30 in the club house to select captains and make plans for the coming season. All interested parties welcome.

 

Saturday 18th December - Christmas Carols

Members of Skerries Community Choir join with local children and guest soloists to perform seasonal carols and music in the clubhouse. Come along and enjoy mulled wine and a mince pie while listening to the music and song. Voluntary donations on the night for a local charity.

Event starts at 7.30 pm. All welcome.

Saturday 18th December - Produce & Cake Sale

Given the success of this event last year we are again working with local food growers and manufacturers to put on a great display of all types of produce for sale in the run into Christmas. Many members and their families are also busy producing all sorts of preserves and other delicacies to enrich the Christmas tables of the community.

The sale starts at 10.30 am and will run throughout the day, finishing at 3.30 pm.

Santa Claus makes his customary visit to the Vineyard followed by the Draw for the Christmas Raffle.

Thursday 25th November -Information Evening, Coaching and Mentoring 2011

John Wills will share the club plans for the establishment of a new cricket academy for the 2011 season together with details of the proposed new structure of coaching and mentoring for the coming season.

All are welcome to the event which kicks off at 7.30 pm. Don't forget that you do not need any special skills to get involved and we would especially welcome all parents of the Youths section.

It's that time of year again where we review the business of the club for the previous year and look forward to the excitement and challenges that lie ahead of us for the upcoming year. Why not come along and give us your ideas of how to continue the good work of developing the club for the next 12 months or perhaps you would be willing to get more deeply involved in the running of the club yourself.

The meeting starts at 8 o'clock in the clubhouse and all members are very welcome.

 

Friday 15th October Annual Awards Dinner

Come along and help celebrate the achievements of our criceters and teams thoughout 2010 at our Annual Awards Dinner. The event starts in the clubhouse at 8.30 which will include full three course dinner followed by the awards ceremony and with a DJ to help us kick our heels up for the rest of the evening. Saturday the 2nd will see the parents and staff hold a table quiz to raise much needed funds for the school. Proceedings start at 8pm and tickets cost €10.00 a head. Promises to be a great night of fun and you will also be supporting our local community.

 

Saturday 11th September - Martin Byrne and Morning Dew

Martin Byrne and Morning Dew are coming together in the clubhouse to provide the entertainment to coincide with the annual Killalane Road Races. Given the popularity of both acts it promises to be a memorable evening of ceol agus craic so make sure to put the date in your diary. There will be no cover charge on the night.

 

Saturday September 4th - Coffee Morning

The annual coffee morning in aid of St Francis Hospice will be held on Saturday 4th of September from 10:30 in the club house. St Francis Hospice provide specialist palliative care to patients with advanced cancer and motor neurone disease living in Dublin city and county. Please support this great cause.

 

August 21st - 300 Members Draw

The annual members 300 draw is now underway and tickets are available from any member of the committee. Tickets cost €30 and prizes are: First prize €2,000, Second prize €1,000, Third prize €500, Fourth prize €250. The draw is scheduled to take place on 21st of August in the club house. With only 300 tickets available the odds are good for you to win.

 

July 26th to July 29th - Summer Camp

The annual Summer Camp for juveniles will get underway on Monday July 26th through to Thursday July 29th. More details to come.

 

21st July The Hills host Skerries Town Twinning cricket event

Boys and girls from our twinned town in France, Guichen, will be visiting The Vineyard to sample some of the fun of the game of cricket. The visiting children, a mixture of boys and girls, will be mainly U 13's and will be sampling the delights of cricket for the first time. This event will be a great opportunity for our own children to meet and make new friends from France. The event starts at 10:30

 

20th July The Hills U 13's to Host London Based Primrose Hill CC

London based Primrose Hill Cricket Club U13's will be visiting the Vivenyard to take on a Fingal selection on Tuesday the 20th of July. The game will start at 10:30 and will be played in a 30/30 format. Primrose is a colts cricket club catering for boys and girls from 7-13 years. They play their cricket in Regents Park near the London Zoo and boast several internationals in their squad.

 

July 6th Hudson Park Primary School- South African Tour

The Hills will host the pupils of Hudson Park Primary school as part of their 16 day tour of Ireland. Bryn Thomas our much admired former professional will be accompanying the pupils and parents. We will be putting out an U13 team against the pupils on the day and for those of you that remember Bryn I am sure he would love to meet up again and relive his time here at The Hills.

The game is scheduled to start at 2 o'clock followed by a BBQ at the clubhouse.

 

Friday July 2nd and 3rd Skerries 100 Road Races

Once again the Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club host this important event on the Skerries circuit. As always volunteers are needed to help out on this important day for the club. We will have entertainment in the Clubhouse on Friday night with the ever popular local group The Diceys performing. Please let any member of the committee know if you can help out for a few hours on either dates.

To coincide with the First X1 Vs North County we are running a "Taste of Asia" food event. Promises to be a great evening with a great variety of Asian delights. There will be a charge for this event but will be based on a cost recovery basis similar to the recent South African Braai.

Saturday the 27th of March is the date set for the Annual Race Meeting at The Hills. Cards are in circulation already and we need your support for this important fundraiser just before the season gets underway.
