Martin was a founder member of Balbriggan Juvenile Cricket Club which was separate to Balbriggan CC. He played cricket for Balbriggan CC, Balrothery CC for which he was secretary at the age of 15 years, Knockbrack Cricket Club where he was Chairman and The Hills CC. Martin was on the committee of The Fingal League, LCU and LCU&SA where he did a term as President. Martin has umpired at the top level in this country both north and south and has acted as the third umpire at international level

Martin played table tennis for the YMCA Club in Balbriggan, badminton for Balbriggan BC, soccer for Balrothery FC and was also a soccer referee. He also played at a high level at darts, rings and pool
