The Hills Vs Clontarf -Lewis Hohn Leinster Senior Cup (June 19th 2010)

A historic day for The Hills Cricket Club when we saw the club field two teams in the Leinster Senior Cup on the same day.

The First X1 travelled to Clontarf and the Second X1 played host at home to Railway Union. Hokin and Poynter were the players in form for Clontarf scoring 124 and 65 respectively. Clontarf finished their innings with 257 for 6 off their 60 overs Highlights of The Hills bowling were; Max Sorensen who took 3 for 28 in 9 overs, Naseer Shoukat took 0 for 47 in 10 overs, Albert van der Merwe took 1 for 34 in 12 overs. Luke Clinton and Albert further contributed with a run out each.

If The Hills were to come out tops in the encounter they needed a good start but unfortunately we lost two early wickets with the score on just 22. Jeremy Bray and Mike Baumgart took over the duties at the crease and settled into the task at hand but unfortunately Bray was trapped lbw with the score on just 42. Baumgart dug in but wickets continued to fall at the other end with both Sorensen and Mark Dwyer heading for the pavilion with the score on 5 for 73. Tomás Murphy joined Mike and proceeded to support the run chase until bowled by Cusack on 38 and the total on165. Mike battled on until he was eventually caught off the bowling of Morrissey for 94. We finished on 193 all out 64 short of the target. Best bowling for Clontarf was Cusack with 4 for 40 off 10. At the Vineyard the Second X1 faced into the challenge of the star studded Railway Union. Railway won the toss and decided to bat. The Hills hopes rose on the back of two early wickets from Malcolm Byrne, accounting for Carroll and Fisher and the total on 39. The Railway middle order set about their task and all contributed handsomely G Mc Donnell getting 44, C Mullen 29, D Kapoor 29, K O' Brien 45, Tariq 32 and Clonliffe 31. Total of 262 for 9 off the 60 overs. Best bowling for The Hills was; Andrew Moore with 4 wickets for 42 off 9 overs, Matt Dwyer taking 2 for 27 off 12 overs, Malcolm Byrne with 2 for 49 off 8 overs.

A good start was needed but it was not to be and our early order batsmen struggled and with 5 out for 47 the writing was on the wall. The misery for the batsmen continued until all The Hills men were dismissed for a total of 91, extras of 22 top scoring by a big margin. Ullah taking 3 wickets for 20 off 10 and Rendell taking 3 for 17 off 8 overes were the star bowlers for Railway.
