The Hills Vs Leinster (May 30th 2010)
Leinster set an impressive target of 262 for The Hills to chase in the opening encounter of the Lewis Hohn Williams Leinster Senior Cup at Milverton on Sunday. The Hills needed to be on top form to topple the All Ireland Champions. Best Batting for Leinster included Irish International George Dockrell scoring a classy 97, Anton Scholtz with a 50 and Mark Kelly with 39. Pick of The Hills bowling attack were Max Sorensen with 3 wickets for 38 off 12 overs and Naseer Shoukat taking 3 wickets for 59 off 12 overs.
The Hills reply got off to a steady if not spectacular start, Jeremy Bray 10, Albert van der Merwe 18, Mike Baumgart 24, Naseer Shoukat 17 but with the loss of three quick wickets Joseph Clinton, Mark Dwyer and Malcolm Byrne it began to look like the best laid plans of the home squad were in trouble. Max Sorensen dug in and provided the backbone of what was to come. With The Hills 170 for 8 wickets it looked ominous but along came Peter O'Donnell who joined Max in the chase who between them brought the total to 255 before Sorensen was dismissed lbw on 83 and the last Hills batsman Luke Clinton walked out to the crease needing 7 runs to win. Clinton and O'Donnell pushed singles and twos until we eventually needed just two runs with only two balls remaining. O'Donnell found a gap in the field and pushed a four to the boundary to win the match with just one ball remaining. O' Donnell finished on 42 not out. Great entertainment all round but tough on the heart rate and on the fingernails.
Great news from Cricket Ireland who have just confirmed that Club Development Officer Albert van der Merwe has been selected in the Irish A squad for their forthcoming three day game against Sussex on June 8th through June 10th. Congratulations Albert and the best of luck in the game.

The Mens Fifth XI had another tight encounter against local rivals North County beating them by the smallest of all margins just a single run.
The Third X1 were narrowly defeated in Rush on Sunday but not before Brendan Moore got over a century.
Elsewhere The Ladies First X1 went through to the next round of their Cup competition defeating Rush comprehensively at the Vineyard.
In what appears to be a habit for the Club last weekend the Under 13 Girls had an exciting win against Railway Union. Railway made 100 for 7 in their 20 overs. The Hills in reply were 47 for 7 after 12 overs and looked to be in an impossible position. The penultimate batting pair of newcomer Sophie Sheahan and Samantha Keegan steadied the ship with a total of 8 and 6 runs =respectively for the loss of no wickets before the final pair of Veronica Fay-Watt and Rhiannon Pope brought the total to 99 for 7 with only one ball of the match remaining. On the last delivery Veronica struck a fine shot to mid wicket to secure a single putting the scores equal on 100 for 7. The girls could not believe their luck when Railway misfielded the ball enabling The Hills pair to turn for a second run to win their first game of this season away to the reigning Under 13 Girls league champions by the tightest of margins.
The 11 B's also won against Malahide away.
